Japanese And Lovely

Vintage Cloth Kokeshi Doll 18

My friend, Sela, found this intersting doll and she called me at work to come take a look at it. I really am lucky to have friends who take in interest in what I like to do!I've been trying to figure out what era she's from. I'm guessing early 60's. I'm usually afraid of dolls. They tend to creep me out quite a bit. But I have her on top of a shelf in the living room, and she has been nothing but absolutely adorable :)

So far

Things seem to be going pretty well on etsy, as far as 'just starting out' goes..I hope I can soon fill my pages with the things I had in mind when I thought up my name, Argentum Vintage. When I first came up with the name, I had visions of high tea services, old shaving kits, and antique medical instruments.
But, I have to say, I am pretty content with the way things are now.

Glass fetish

Is there such a thing?
I have always loved glass. I remember collecting pieces of it on the beach, smoothed down from the sand and salt in the water. I once lived above a stained glass shop, and I would often find beautifully color-swirled shards all over the sidewalk. I like that fact that it's usually cool to the touch, but it can also be made to be extremely hot.
I'm not sure how many bottles I have in my apartment, and I refuse to count them. They range from a small soy sauce bottle that I use to water my plants to antique decanters from the late 1800's. The weirder shaped, the better.

In Stitches

I have recently joined craftster.com and I have to say, I have been blown away by all of the creativity I have been witnessing there. To be honest, this is the next best thing to having extremely crafty/artistic friends..not that I don't love my booze-hound buddies :P
On one of my recent Saturday outings with Demi, I picked up a cross-stitch of a rooster and I have been working on it here and there. So, today, while carousing craftster, I came across some super awesome stuff by Kate Westerholt.
Pure genius!
Not only is she great at the X stitch, but pretty witty too.
I am truly inspired.

Saturday Ritual

Every Saturday, my friend Demi (short for Demelza) texts me to find out what I'm up to.
Then our day proceeds like this:
1.She comes aver and plays with the dogs while we figure out where to eat
2.We go to some type of Asian eatery - usually over-priced, and we pig out
3.We go to a craft store and pick out some crazy looking crosstitch pattern while I walk around aimlessly trying to figure out what it is we came there for in the first place. I usually never figure it out and leave with a new hobby.
4.We always end our outing by dropping me off at my house from a car full of plants we just purchased from Home Depot. She's more of a quantity buyer, while I shop for quality :P
This is what I bought today

Before I go to bed

I just wanted to post about Joshua Petker's awesome art.
His paintings were brought to my attention by a friend who posted his site on my facebook page, saying "you should be in these paintings".
What a compliment <3

I Need a New Camera

So, the time has come to upgrade and downsize my digital camera.
I'm torn. I really need something that:
-takes good pictures in low lighting
-has a fast shutter speed
-has manual settings
-is smaller than my clunky EOS 30D.
-has a video option
-be less than 300 bucks
So far I have yet to find a camera that meets all of these requirements.
This is what I have been looking at so far:
1. Canon Powershot SX110IS
2. Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd
3. Canon Powershot SD1200IS
...argh.

A Beginning

I've been wanting to make a blog for a while, but I'm such a procrastinator, it has taken me forever to get started.
I'm not sure if I want to make this a personal blog, or an art blog. Maybe I will do both here.
I have alot of time off from work, as I only work 3 days a week. So I am often cruising around online looking for new things to occupy my time. If I could possibly figure out a way to stay home and make money, that would be totally ideal for me. This is the first time in years that I have lived in a place that I don't mind not leaving everyday!
I am in the constant company of my two dogs, Logan and Stagger. They are kind of my audience in a way..heh...
